Can You Buy Land in a Government Revocation Area in Lagos State?
A “Government Revocation Area” refers to land that the government has officially taken back from its previous owner or occupant. This revocation is done in accordance with the Land Use Act, which allows the government to revoke land rights for reasons of overriding public interest, such as building roads, schools, hospitals, or other public infrastructure.
When land is declared a revocation area, it means the former right of occupancy has been legally cancelled, often through an official notice published in the State’s official gazette. Once this happens, the affected party no longer has a legal claim to the land, although compensation is generally provided if the previous owner had a valid title.
It is important to exercise caution when dealing with land marked as a government revocation area. Such land can not be legally sold, developed, or occupied without formal reallocation or approval by the appropriate government authority.
